Our Lady of Pantohara The church of Elytis in Sikinos
Panagia Pantohara is a chapel erected in Sikinos, one of the last wishes of the Greek Nobel prize awarded poet, Odysseus Elytis to his partner Juliet Iliopoulou while he was alive.
Alexander Samaras and partners offer architectural design. The project was completed with the care of architect Lilian Stefanidou and civil engineer Iambros Kostakis in summer 2011. The land plot was graciously donated by the Sikinos municipality.
To reach PanagiaPanchohara, one must follow the route from the Choraof Sikinos, leading to the Monastery of the ZoodohosPigi. In front of the small temple stretches the Aegean Sea, overlookingSifnos, Paros, Antiparos, Naxos and other Cyclades islands.
Odysseus Elytis’s choice to build the chapel in Sikinos was far from accidental, as Sikinos remains an island that retains its Cycladic authenticity and its virgin element.
